NASHPORT, Ohio– Local and state dignitaries gathered to view the completion of major improvements at Dillon State Park Tuesday.
Ohio Department of Natural Resources Director Jim Zehringer, Senator Troy Balderson, Zanesville Mayor Jeff Tilton, as well as other community leaders were on hand for the unveiling.
Five cabins have been renovated with a new kitchen, bedroom, and furniture. People are able to tour the grounds and see each improvement up close. A total of $830,000 were spent on these improvements.
“It feels great to be here with people that have put their blood, sweat, and tears into this park,” Zehringer said. “Over the years a lot of our state parks needed updating, Dillon being one of them. We’ve worked the last couple years working to upgrade the electric in our camp site and we’ve done that. We’ve put in new restroom down by the beach. ”
The improvements were part of an $88.5 million Ohio State Park improvement project thanks to Governor John Kasich and the Ohio General Assembly.
“It’s an honor for me to be at the state house and to work with the governor and the director of ODNR, Director Zehringer and to keep doing more and more improvements in our state parks, Senator Balderson said. “It’s a vital asset.”
People are encouraged to log onto ohiodnr.gov to complete a survey. ODNR takes those surveys into account when implementing improvements.
