“Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over”

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – New Year’s is a great time to celebrate with friends and family.
However, the Ohio State Highway Patrol wants to remind people that it is never okay to drink and drive. Zanesville Post Commander Lieutenant Matt Boyd said it’s important to plan ahead and have a safe way to get home this weekend before heading out for any celebrations or parties.
“Don’t ever think that you can just have a couple beers and everything’s going to be okay and you can drive home,” said Lieutenant Boyd. “Just plan ahead if they find themselves in a circumstance where they didn’t plan to drink as much as they did, call a friend, and family member, a cab, or something to get themselves home safely.”
Lieutenant Boyd said last year during the holiday they did not see a large spike in incidents locally and that he hopes everyone can be as safe again this year. He said alcohol can affect everyone in different ways and if you plan on drinking at all, don’t plan on getting behind the wheel.
“There’s a whole lot that goes into it,” said Lieutenant Boyd. “So our recommendation is basically if you are doing anything if you plan on consuming any alcohol or doing anything that could impair your judgment, don’t get behind the wheel.”
Lieutenant Boyd also wants to remind everyone to be sure and buckle up, drive defensively, and to have a safe holiday weekend.
