Emergency Evacuation near Muskingum River

Ice Jam 1

The Muskingum County EMA said Friday afternoon that the water level on the Muskingum River is continuing to rise.

EMA Director Jeff Jadwin said an ice jam which broke loose early in they day is now not moving and has become stuck behind the former AK Steel building. This is causing water to build up behind the jam and has led to rising water levels.

They are now seeing high water at River Manor 1 and 2, Riverside Airport Road. The water is also rising at Terrace Shores and Gilbert Station.

Jadwin said he’s in close contact with the Army Corps of Engineers who is trying to reduce the amount of water coming down river. He’s also been talking with the National Weather Service.
