Emergency Shelters are Opening Their Doors

The Salvation Army is helping people stay warm during these dangerously cold winter temperatures.

Their emergency shelter has been checking in a number of individuals within the past couple of days due to the severly cold weather this week. The shelter can house a maximum of 35 individuals from 1 to 90 days and service anyone from Muskingum, Perry or Morgan counties.

“We provide breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack everyday. We provide all hygene products that a person may need while they’re here. If an individual comes in and they need clothing or what have you, then we help them out in that manor through our clothing room. Depending on the situation if we help someone get into housing, we help with household items or what have you. If a persons traveling through, they need blankets, pillows things like that, then we will help with that also.”

Shelter Manager, Karen Walker, says there is currently still room in both the women’s and men’s dorms.

“There’s no reason to be out in the cold, please come in for help. If we can’t help you, we’ll try to line you up with somebody that can help you, and working together as a team within the community, we can solve a lot of issues.”

The Salvation Army requires individuals to have an I.D. And a social security card so they can do a proper background check prior to their stay.
