Farmer’s Market Spotlight
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The farmer’s market at the Muskingum County Fair Grounds has entered its second month. While most people at the market are selling produce not everyone is there to try to sell perishable items.
Carlos Church has been collecting rare and antique coins for 45 years and said he has been coming to the farmer’s market to showoff and sell some of his collection for the last 35 years. Church had thousands of coins and bill on display and said it’s a great hobby to take up.
“I started off collecting and you know you get so many and then you start selling them,†said Church “It’s an interesting hobby. If the coins could talk they would have a lot of history to say.â€
Church said his favorite coin in his collection is his $10 gold indian coin. However, even that coin has a price, which is set at $900. His oldest coin is a half-cent that dates to 1825. Church said while he is very content with his collection; there are always coins out there that elude him.
“I think I’ve had about all of them but there are some that you’ll never have like the 1895 Morgan silver dollar. They only made it in proof and it starts off at about $24,000,†said Church while laughing.
Church said he sets up his shop at the farmer’s market every single week.
