Fatal motorcycle accident in Newark

NEWARK, Ohio--Newark Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle accident.

It happened Monday around 7:00 pm  at the intersection of N. 21st Street and Granville Street.

Authorities said emergency personnel arrived on the scene to discover the operator of the motorcycle, 26-year-old Jacob McCormick of Newark,  was deceased.

Initial investigation shows that the motorcycle was northbound on N. 21st Street at a high rate of speed and passing vehicles when it struck a southbound Honda Pilot, which was beginning to turn left onto Granville Street.

The operator of the maroon Honda Pilot was identified as 27-year-old Chelsey Burden of Newark.

The accident remains under investigation.
