Fighting Crohn’s and Colitis

Area organizations are preparing for the second annual, "Take Steps for Crohn’s and Colitis" walk.

It will take place on October 20th, at the Zane State/OU-Z campus at 2 p.m.

Kelly Moore of the Rambo Medical Center said nearly 1.4 million Americans suffer from Crohn’s disease or Colitis and 80% of the proceeds will go directly toward research and education.

"This year we’re hoping for a larger turnout," said Moore.  "We’re doing something a little bit different, we’re doing a fall festivals theme. So there will be a costume contest for both adult and children, and pets as well, so we’re encouraging people to bring their pets."

The event will also feature live music, food, children’s activities and a dog agility demonstration.

Dog bandanas will also be sold to help raise money as part a "Paws for Crohn’s" fundraiser with the proceeds also benefiting research.

"That is being done by Joyce Bates, she’s making all the bandanas, so we’re hoping we’ll see lots of dogs, cats or whatever with bandanas on that day," added Moore.
