Firefighters Train in Zanesville

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Several firefighters are in town doing live fire training.
Falls Township, South Zanesville, and Washington Township are in Muskingum County getting real life hands on fire training with the assistance of a burn trailer. In the trailer, the firefighters will have to put out three different fire scenarios including a bedroom fire, kitchen fire, and a basement fire. The firefighters won’t know which fire they will have to put out until they enter the trailer.
“Great training for live fire for these guys,” Zanesville Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Doug Hobson said. “Unfortunately it’s 90 degrees outside today. They’re in about 12-1500 degree temperatures fighting this fire. But we’re keeping them hydrated, checking vitals. It’s just a great way for us to train with live fire.”
This is an all day training that begins at 9 a.m. and will conclude around 4 p.m. Assistant Fire Chief Hobson said having this trailer is vital not only for the fire department but it’s crucial for the community as well.
“For these guys be to able to go into a structure that’s live fire burning, it’s just more experience for them. It’s just not putting the wet stuff on the red stuff. It’s a matter of getting that hose in there. Getting those guys to work together. Getting those guys to be a full team,” Hobson said.
The fire training will continue tomorrow.
