First Annual Southeast Ohio Track Clinic
While dogs ran through obstacles on one end of the Fieldhouse, Middle and High School runners practiced their form on the other.
Dozens of dedicated track and field athletes attended the first annual Southeast Ohio Track Clinic. This was the athletes chance to hone their craft and receive feedback from some of the state’s best high school and college coaches.
“Of course they want to learn how to be better at the event, but I think it’s the goal setting and the discipline and the hard work that’s really the true benefit that you get out of the sport,” said UC Track and Field Coach, Chris Wineberg.
Those who attended also had the chance to meet Olympian Mary Wineberg who competed in the 2008 Beijing summer games, where she won a gold medal in the women’s 4 x 400 relay. At Sunday’s clinic, she offered inspirational words to the young athletes.
“The biggest thing for me is to never give up. I tried for the Olympics twice, I didn’t make it the first time. But I said no, I ‘m going to keep pushing forward. So my advice to them is to keep pushing, you never know what can happen.”
Entrance for the clinic was a $25.00 pre-registration fee. All proceeds will be donated to the John Glenn and Philo High School track and field programs.
