Food Delivered to Area Senior Citizens

ZANESVILLE – The perishable food boxes were donated through a grant from a USDA Farmers to Families program based in Columbus.
“What you see going behind us today is all of our senior citizens that are homebound; all 700 of them. We made a big call and plea to the community (and) you see what’s happening here today. So many…so many different groups have come in. Each car that’s coming through here today gets ten boxes (and) they’re taking them out to our seniors,” Zanesville Assistant Fire Chief Doug Hobson said.
Seniors who rely on services from the Muskingum County Center for Seniors now only have two weeks of stored food items at their disposal. Hobson spoke about how critical it is for the community to step up and help.
“With the pandemic that hit, unfortunately to the senior center, they were left with 14 days worth of meals. We want them to have some type of a perishable. You know; the milk, the eggs, the meat, the protein box. So, the need is out there. You know, this pandemic has struck all families (and) all walks of life so we have to take care of those people that are stuck at their house,” Hobson said.
The food collection had a tremendous turnout and all of the food was collected before the event was actually scheduled to start at 10:00 AM.
