Four Addict Recovery Apartments to Open in Zanesville

Everyday 46 people in the United States die from an overdose of prescription pain killers.

According to the Centers For Disease Control And Prevention, fatal drug overdoses claim more lives than motor vehicle accidents each year. Because these number are so startling, Muskingum Behavioral Health is in the process of developing a recovery residence to provide safe, sober housing for those working towards long term recovery.

"Housing is another concern that we’re dealing with Perry Behavioral Health Choices, and Muskingum Behavioral Health have teamed together lassoed a grant in the last grant cycle from the state and we will be opening apartments seven apartments, four in Zanesville and three in New Lexington to provide people with safe sober housing," said Steve Carrel from Muskingum Behavioral Health.

In order to obtain recovery housing, the person will have to prove that they are actively attending some sort of rehabilitation program.

"We’re finding that more and more people we deal with need more then just treatment," stated Carrel. "They need other kinds of supports to get into that long term recover."

Carrel says there is no simple solution. For recovery to work recovering addicts need community support.
