Genesis Celebrates National Cancer Survivors Day

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Genesis Cancer Care Center hosted a celebration of life for local cancer survivors, that won their battle against cancer.

The event had live music, as well as food, drinks, prizes and more. Genesis Radiation and Oncology Manager, Shannon White said these people celebrating here today, have been through so much. It is great for them to be able to come back today and just relax and have a great day.

White said, “It is good for the patients to come back when they are feeling good. When they are going through a lot of cancer treatments, they don’t feel so good. They are so excited a lot of times to see the nurses and the radiation therapists that was there for them through that hard time, so it’s good when they are back here and having a little bit more energy and not here for a treatment. So, they’re here to celebrate.”

Today is National Cancer Survivors Day and it was a great celebration for the patients. One cancer survivor, Sally Shuster was their with her team and she said it means a lot to her that Genesis hosted the celebration.

“It’s excellent. I really like it. I think it shows the support from the doctors, the nurses, and the people that put this on. I really think it helps the people that have survived cancer. I really enjoy it.” Shuster continued to say “These are my team members, I’m missing two of them. If it hadn’t been for these girls I wouldn’t have gotten through it.

Shannon White said they have been putting this event on for over twenty years now, and it’s a great event each year.
