Genesis Pro-Am Golf Tournament

Golfers hit the green for a good cause.

The 32nd annual Genesis Pro-Am Golf Tournament kicked off at the Zanesville Country Club. Orthopedic Surgeon Steven Kimberly said the proceeds directly benefit the Genesis HealthCare Foundation.

"We make money that the foundation can then use for individual projects like last year it paid for a cardiac screening truck," said Kimberly. "They provided electronic defibrillators to the high schools. Each year we try to pick a different purpose to fund."

Kimberly said this year the money might go toward women’s and children’s care. More than 100 golfers are participating in each of the three days.

"I think the golfers come back because this is such a fun event," said Kimberly. "We have a great golf course. There’s a lot of comradery out here. It’s a slow round, but that gives everyone a chance to talk to each other and meet people you wouldn’t otherwise get to meet."

The event has raised millions of dollars over the past three decades.
