Habitat For Humanity Seeking ReStore Volunteers

Habitat for Humanity is working toward opening a ReStore in Zanesville.

It will be located in the same building as the old IGA at Sunrise Center. Manager Terry Schultz explained the concept of the ReStore.

“The ReStore works through Habitat for Humanity. We’re a fundraising branch of what Habitat does so what we do is, just a like a Goodwill, Salvation army, a lot of other thrift stores around, take donated items, both new and used and re-sell those items for a profit. The profit that we make from the operation of the ReStore goes back into the budget of Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio.”

Lots of renovations are being made, and Schulz said they are seeking out all different kinds of volunteers, both individuals and groups. Not only will you be able to help a great organization continue their work, but you’ll also get a lot out of it in return.

“It’s a great sense of accomplishment, especially right now, seeing the store as an empty shell. Someone will be able to say I had a hand in helping out laying the floor or I painted that wall, or, I built that wall.”

Your help allows homes to be built for others. According to Schulz, ReStores run on 70% volunteer labor. Painting, light construction work, and cleaning are some of the jobs that need to be completed now. When the store opens other labor will be sought. The anticipated opening of the store is July 10th.
