Heroin Epidemic in Ohio

Recently Attorney General, Mike DeWine, made statements on heroin being delivered within 15 to 20 minutes to users in Ohio.

Most people might assume that drugs are only found in the bigger city’s like Columbus, Cincinnati, or Cleveland. Executive Director at Muskingum Behavioral Health, Steve Carrel, said they’re not; they could be found just as much in the small towns like Zanesville.

“It’s easy to get, its cheap, and it’s readily available,” said Carrel. “A lot of people here in southeast Ohio think ‘Oh well that’s a big city thing.’ It’s not a big city thing. It’s here. ”

With heroin and other substances being easily found and used, help can also be easily be found.

“Help is a phone call away,” said Carrel “If the person really wants to work a good solid recovery, working treatment, go to a support group meeting, establish friends who are not users most of whom are recovering folks as well, and you know a lot of cases you know there is medication now. ”
