Highway Patrol donates radios to Zanesville Police

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Tuesday at City Hall officials from the Ohio State Highway Patrol met with Mayor Jeff Tilton and the Zanesville Police Department to donate much needed radios.

In total 50 portable radios were given from the Highway Patrol to Zanesville Police. Col. Paul Pride, who is the superintendent of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, said that the patrol had to purchase new radios for their troopers, but that the donated ones work perfectly fine.

“With these radios you can stand on the Ohio River in Ironton, Ohio and talk to someone on another radio just like that one, that is standing on Lake Erie in the Cleveland area,” said Col. Pride.

This is part of a statewide process where departments apply for donated radios. Col. Pride said that among the tools an officer carries on him, the radio can be the most important.

“You’re always on the radio,” said Col. Pride. “The radio does a lot of things. It tells you where to go. What is needed. It gives you a heads up on what you’re going to deal with when you’re on your way to a call.”

Zanesville Police will start using the new radios immediately.
