John Glenn Museum Joins State’s Historical System

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The John and Annie Glenn Homestead in New Concord joined a list of over 50 historic sites recognized by the Ohio History Connection, formerly the Ohio State Historical Society, as an important Ohio location.
Glenn’s boyhood home became one of 58 historic sites across Ohio History Connection’s System. It joins the National Road-Zane Grey Museum as Muskingum County’s locations. Ohio History Connection CEO Burt Logan explains what makes the John Glenn site special.
“John Glenn is an American legend,†said Logan. “The opportunity to bring a site of this significance into our system doesn’t happen very often. We’re pleased to be able to that that.â€
The home is where Glenn grew up in New Concord before going on to become the first American to orbit Earth. However, the home was moved from its first location to its current location on Route 40 in the early 2000s.
Logan said it was an easy choice for the board to select the John Glenn Museum. Logan said the museum joining the system will give it greater exposure.
“It certainly will give it greater visibility throughout our system with our marketing. It certainly ties in with a lot of the broad story of Ohio history that we tell. So there will be benefits in both directions,†said Logan.
The John Glenn Museum is open from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and from 1 p.m. till 4 p.m. on Sundays.
