Kid Z-Ville 2 the Hot Topic at City Council

2016.11.14 City Council 1

ZANESVILLE, Ohio — City Council held their bi-weekly meeting this evening and the biggest topic of discussion was the rebuild of Kid Z-ville.

Assistant Chief Doug Hobson of the Zanesville Fire Department says that they are still in need of many volunteers and tools to help with the rebuild scheduled to begin in less than two months.

“So what we’re looking for is workers and tools. The organization that we have partnered with tells us that during the different time periods from May 31st to June 4th for the build, from 8-noon, 12:30-5, and 5:30 until dark, we need 150 people per shift for all 5 days,” explained Hobson.

Hobson explains that volunteers age 10-13 can enter the work zone, but they must be accompanied by an adult. Helpers between the ages of 14-17 can also be in the work zone and use tools, however they will not be permitted to use power tools. Anyone the age of 18 and older will be able to assist in any capacity.

Additionally, volunteers will provide child care during the working hours. So parents who may want to assist, there will be child care for kids between the ages of 5 and 10 where they will play games, and be watched over and cared for in a structured setting.

Hobson spoke passionately about the importance of this project for local youth, and thanked organizations that have already stepped forward to help. He also says they are exhausting all options to recruit the remaining volunteers they need.

“North Terrace Church, they’ve really jumped on the bandwagon and they’re supplying us like 100 people. With this comes a lot of different jobs– we’ve got tool coordinators, food coordinators. Mideast has jumped on board with us. They’re out there right now with Habitat For Hummanity tearing that down and they plan on being there for the build also. We’ve contacted the National Guard, churches, every organization we can think of,” added Hobson.

Lastly, Hobson added that he wants volunteers to know that this will be a fun event. There will be music, volunteers will be fed meals, and the opportunity for the community to all come together as one to help with the project makes it fulfilling for all involved.

Those interested in volunteering for the rebuild can go to their Facebook page to register.
