Labor Day: Just Another Work Day for Law Enforcement

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- As many individuals are spending the holiday with their families; grilling out and soaking up the sun, it’s just another working Monday for law enforcement and essential workers.
Some jobs don’t stop grinding on the holidays. On this Labor Day holiday, the Zanesville Police Department’s top priority is making sure the community is safe and officers are on duty to assist individuals as needed.
“We’re a 24/7 entity and it’s just part of the job. We make sure all our officers are on duty. We try to make sure the public is safe because everyone else is enjoying the last holiday of the summer,” Zanesville Police Department Lieutenant Chris Rice said.
However, this three day-weekend wasn’t just for the Zanesville Police Department. Many first responders and essential workers clocked in to fulfil their duties.
“We’re not the only essential employees working. The fire department, sheriff’s department and highway patrol are out diligently, keeping the highways safe,” Rice said. “I got to tip my hat to all the essential employees who are required to work on the holidays as we are. It’s just part of the job and it’s something we like to do to make sure the community is safe.”
Law enforcement officers and departments worked together this Labor Day weekend to make sure everyone had a fun and safe holiday.
