Lady Wildcats stay undefeated; Newark boys fall to Pick Central

PICKERINGTON, Ohio – Entering Saturday’s game with Pickerington Central both the girl’s and boy’s Newark basketball teams were undefeated and ranked first and second in the AP DI poll, respectively.

The girl’s game tipped off first and the Wildcats took down the Tigers 55-41. Freshman Gabby Stare paced the Wildcats with 19 points and went a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line. With the win the Lady Wildcats moved to 20-0 on the season.

In the boy’s game in front of a sold out crowd the sixth ranked Pick Central Tigers were on top 35-31 at half time. The Wildcats would go up 66-65 with ten second to play until Newark fouled the Tiger’s Sterling Manley to put him at the line. Manley knocked down both of his free throws and Pickerington Central got the win 67-66. BJ Duling led the Wildcats with 33 points.

The Newark boy’s team next plays Tuesday against Big Walnut. The girl’s team is at Big Walnut on Tuesday.
