Library Reading Programs for Young Readers

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- The Muskingum County Library System is promoting and encouraging young readers to take part in its reading and online events.

There are many ways for kids to get involved with reading and learning at the John McIntire Library. In celebration of Earth Day, the library is giving out free kits and hosting a virtual experiment event on Wednesday at 10 a.m. A video will be available on the MCLS Facebook page allowing kids to follow along and learn how to make a flower and seed bomb and a rain gauge using a 2-liter bottle.

“You can also come in and pick up your packet so that you can participate along with the reporting as well. So, we’re really hoping that we’re able to kind of spark some interest in science and also just kind of celebrate Spring as well,” Marketing and Community Relations Director Sean Fennell said.

The Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has a partnership with the Muskingum County Literacy Council and the Ohio Governor’s Imagination Library. By signing up, children ages 0 to 5 will receive a new book in the mail every month. The John McIntire Library also has a “1000 books before kindergarten” program that helps promote early reading for young children.

“It’s just a really great way to celebrate books and literacy and learning, and you know encourage the youth of Muskingum County to think about and engage in books and reading in a really fun way,” Fennell said.

You can find additional information for each program by visiting the Muskingum County Library or checking out its website at www.muskingumlibrary.org.
