Light The Night Walk Held at OUZ

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society held their Light The Night Walk Thursday evening.

Nearly 500 walkers joined together at Ohio University Zanesville Campus to walk for the same great cause–to fund the research of blood cancer. Tim Hamburger, Executive Director of the Central Ohio Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma society, told us a little bit more about tonight’s walk.

"It gives family, friends, an opportunity to come out to walk in memory, in honor of and as supporters of folks that are battling blood cancers and this walk is going on nationwide. We have 58 chapters in the united states that’ll raise over 60 million dollars this year for light the night "

Many walkers carried a lantern with them as they walked around the campus. Hamburger says each colored lantern has a different meaning.

"There’s a gold lantern, a white lantern and a red lantern. The gold lanterns are for folks that are walking in memory of a loved one. Someone who’s passed from blood cancer. White is for survivors and we have as you’ll see a lot of white lanterns tonight which is a great thing. There are a lot more people surviving blood cancers because of the great therapies we’re helping to bring to market. And the red lanterns are for the supporters. They’re friends and family of these people that have battled blood cancer."

The walk began at 7:30PM. To donate to the society, you can visit the website: www.lls.org
