Local Kindergartners Jumpstart their Academic Year

Parents said goodbye to their kindergartners while they jumpstarted their academic year at Zane Grey Elementary.
The Kindergarten Jumpstart Program began at 8:45 a.m. and ran until 11:45 a.m. every Monday through Thursday morning. Intervention specialist, Kayla Jones said that during those hours the children learn how to interact with others and go through a refresher from their preschool studies.
“Just learning to get along with others and being even with others; some of these kids have never been to a school before, said Jones.” So just learning to get along with others and learning you know how to go to the bathroom, asking please, and thank you. Just basic things that you need to know before coming to school. ”
When the children participate in studies they go through ‘Centers’ which is a part of the Literacy Collaborative Program that Zane Grey Elementary follows. This way the children socialize with multiple groups and refresh on studies from the previous year.
“We do centers every day and just being able to learn to switch the centers and do different things like one of us have done math, another one has done the alphabet, and another one might be doing writing their names, said Jones.” So they’re getting a variety of different things worked on during the day. ”
Kindergarten Jumpstart’s final day’s on Thursday. The children have one week off before starting school on Wednesday, August 24.
