Man Indicted Following two Armed Robberies
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum County Prosecutor’s office says that a man has been indicted in connection to a pair of armed robberies that occurred in Zanesville on the same day.
According to Assistant Prosecutor Ron Welch, 24-year-old Zanesville resident Joey J. Valez was indicted Wednesday morning and is facing two counts of aggravated robbery with a firearm specification, two counts of having a weapon while under disability, and theft.
Zanesville Police say on June 5 at approximately 9:09 p.m. Valez allegedly went into the Certified Gas Station at 1380 Greenwood Avenue. He entered with a handgun and demanded money. A struggle with an employee ensured and then he fled on foot.
At approximately 11:54 p.m. on the same day Valez allegedly entered the MotoMart at 2341 Maple Avenue with a handgun and again demanded money from an employee. The man was given an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes and again fled on foot.
Valez is currently being held in the Zanesville City Jail on a $250,000 bond.
