Marijuana Proposal Has Been Amended
Responsible Ohio, a group pushing for a constitutional amendment to legalize marijuana in Ohio, has now rewritten its proposal to allow people to grow a limited amount in their homes.
The revised proposal would allow people over 21 to get a license to cultivate up to four marijuana plants at home for personal use. Prior to the rewrite, the proposed amendment had called for ten grow sites across the state, making home growth illegal. This new information is sure to stir up even more controversy about the already hot topic.
“Well, there’s going to be people who are very pro who are going to say that’s a great thing, and then you have the anti, but the fence setters, I could see them falling on either side because when you start making marijuana available that way there’s less accountability for it,” said Muskingum Behavioral Health CEO, Steve Carrel.
According to Carrel, one of the best ways to get information about the legalization of marijuana is to simply look at the facts. That includes research about the two states who pioneered marijuana legalization, Colorado and Washington. He says it’s the voters responsibility to educate themselves before they step into the voter’s booth.
“So voters need to get out and they need to educate themselves, they need to take a look at places you can get good solid education. There’s lots of places that can provide you with sound information. You know, take a look at both sides and make your minds up from there,” said Carrel.
Responsible Ohio is pushing to get the constitutional amendment on the November ballot and backers plan to spend millions to get it passed, but ultimately, the decision of marijuana legalization will be up to you the Ohio voters.
