ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Zanesville Fire Department was called shortly after 9:30 p.m. Saturday night near Muskingum Iron and Metal off Maysville Avenue for a possible train derailment.

Upon arrival, they found four solid top rail cars on their side, two cars sitting at an angle, and six other cars off the tracks. One of the engines also seemed to be partially derailed. Zanesville Fire Department said no leaks or fire was found and the community is safe. The Pershing railroad crossing was blocked to uncouple rail cars to open the crossing back up. The scene was turned over to the Train Master. Possible clean up is set for Tuesday. The cause of the derailment will be under investigation.
