ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Zanesville Fire Department responded to a call Saturday evening of a train derailment near Maysville Avenue.

Interim Fire Chief, Doug Hobson, and the City’s Safety Director, Keane Toney, inspected the derailment this morning. Hobson said his objective was to make sure things were underway such as the process of clean up. Clean up is set for either Tuesday or Wednesday. He says his main concern is the safety of the community.

“The community is in no harms way. We made sure there were no leaks, there’s nothing going on other than the train cars off their tracks. So again, that is our number one priority is the community safety of course,” Hobson stated.

Ohio Central Railroad is bringing in heavy equipment to help adjust the loaded train cars. Hobson says they will have to build a track in order for the train cars to be moved.

“As of right now everything looks good. They’re just in the process of getting cranes in, and repairing the tracks and making sure that everything is in order,” he mentioned.

He also said they will be continuing to monitor the clean up process. The cause is still under investigation.
