MCCF is involved in helping students find their path after high school graduation

ZANESVILLE – The Muskingum County Community Foundation affiliates itself with Americorps. The Community Foundation serves as a site where guides from Americorps are assigned to.

“Really what these individuals are doing, they’re going out into the schools and they’re meeting with students on a 1 on 1 basis to talk about what might be the next steps. It really helps augment the high school counselors that are at the local high schools. Counselors these days are dealing with so much more than helping those students find post-secondary opportunities so this is a way to sort of supplement that,” MCCF’s Brian Wagner said.

Wagner said there is an ideal age group for people who may be interested.

“One of the things that we try to look for with out Americorps volunteers is that they’re a near peer individual; somebody who has maybe just graduated from college and is not too far removed from their own decision on what they were going to do from a post secondary standpoint. We think that really works well so the students have somebody to look up to, if you will, or maybe kind of an older brother or sister than can maybe help shepherd them throughout the process,” Wagner said.

Anyone who is interested in applying can visit Americorp’s website. MCCF will start interviewing selected applicants in the middle of this month.
