Meadowbrook ready for run at state tournament

Meadowbrook

BYESVILLE, Ohio – The Meadowbrook Colts are prepping for what will be the biggest game in school history.

Friday they’ll play in the state final four for the first ever time. They’ll take on a high-scoring Trotwood-Madison team. The Rams enter the matchup with a record of 25-3 and finished ranked fifth in the final Associated Press poll of the season.

Meadowbrook head coach Lou Tolzda will be on the sideline for the first ever time in the state final four. And while he called the matchup a bit of “David and Goliath” type of game, he made it very clear that the Colts aren’t content with just showing up.

“We’re not going out there to have a holiday and have a good time. We’re going out there to play the game the way our guys know how to play,” said Tolzda.

The Colts took down John Glenn 36-31 in the regional title game to get to Columbus for the first ever time. The Rams advanced to the state final four for consecutive years with a ten point win over Hughes. This is their fourth trip to Columbus is school history.

Head coach Rocky Rockhold’s Trotwood team can score with the best of them. They’ve scored 100 or more points in ten of their 27 games.

“They are very athletic. Pure athleticism. AAU basketball. Their coach made a comment that if they could they would press us coming off the bus. Their pressure is going to be intense,” said Tolzda.

The Colts will leave for Columbus Thursday, practice at Captial University, and stay the night in the capital city before Friday’s game. There will be no class Friday so students can make the trip. It will be the first game of the tournament with tip off at 10:45 a.m.
