Measure Up to Mental Health
Knights of Columbus and the National Alliance on Mental Illness, NAMI, will hold the third annual "Measure Up to Mental Health" party on Saturday, January 31st.
The night will be filled with dinner, dancing, and music from the 50’s and 60’s rock band Remember Me, featuring Zanesville native, Tom Quinn Jr. This fun event also has an important goal, to raise awareness about and support the area’s mental health services. The 6- County Crisis Stabilization Unit is one location that will benefit from the fundraiser.
Bonnie Taylor, Director of 6-County Crisis Services, stated, "Our crisis facility here is an eight bed residential facility, we have 24-hour coverage with staff and we’re kind of a refuge for people when you’re in a crisis, whether it’s psychiatric or situational, and you need to get away for a little while."
Mental illness does effect one in four people. NAMI 6-County was founded by the Quinn family following a discovery of mental illness in the family.
"I’m one of seven children, and the youngest of the seven got schizophrenia at age 18 which we’ve since learned is a classic age, and our whole family has rallied around our loved one and really dedicated our lives to helping the mentally ill." said Paul Quinn, NAMI President.
You too can help make a difference simply by attending the "Measure Up to Mental Health Dance." Tickets start at $25.00 and can be purchased at K of C Hall and Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl on McIntire Ave.
