Meteorologist (Full-time)
WHIZ-TV, the NBC and FOX affiliate in Zanesville, OH has an opening for a full-time Meteorologist. We are looking for a Meteorologist who has a great understanding of the science of weather and can utilize those skills through clear and concise weather stories. This ideal candidate is passionate and enthusiastic about all types of weather, including severe and winter weather. The candidate should also be confident with their own weather story and provide concise information on TV, radio and social media.
This is a position that would work during the workweek and fill in as needed. Work will include weathercasts on air and on our digital platforms, along with updating our local radio stations. Constant communication and completing tasks on time are required for the role. Severe weather knowledge is also required. This role is an excellent opportunity for those who just graduated college or want to get started in the industry.
Responsibilities:
- Write and deliver forecast stories to all social media platforms
- Update website and interact with viewers, especially during severe weather
- Give viewers compelling and understandable weather forecasts
- Provide efficient and effective radio hits to our radio stations
- Work extra hours and provide immediate and descriptive information when severe weather strikes, including interrupting regular programming
- Communicate and assist with the Weather Team and show crew when necessary
- Fill in other shifts when necessary and make public appearances on behalf of the station
Requirements:
- Have a bachelor’s degree in meteorology, or any related field
- Prior internship or part-time experience required
- Experience with The Weather Company software
- Knowledge of Meteorological science and forecasting
- Dynamic on-air presence with compelling and confident weather segments
- Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Valid driver’s license
