Meteorologist (Part-Time Position)

WHIZ-TV, the NBC and FOX affiliate in Zanesville, OH, has an opening for a weekend/fill-in Meteorologist. We are looking for a Meteorologist who has a great understanding of the science of weather and can utilize those skills through clear and concise weather stories. This ideal candidate is passionate and enthusiastic about all types of weather, including severe weather and winter weather.

This is a part-time position that would work evening shifts on weekends and fill in as needed. Work will include weathercasts on air and on our digital platforms, as well as updates to our local radio stations. Constant communication and timely completion of tasks are required for the role. Severe Weather knowledge is also expected. This role is an excellent opportunity for students enrolled in Meteorology or who have recently graduated. This small market is a great opportunity for those wanting to get started in the business and make big leaps.

Responsibilities:
•  Write and deliver forecast stories to all social media platforms
• Update website and interact with viewers, especially when severe weather is expected
• Give viewers compelling and understandable weather forecasts
• Provide efficient and effective radio hits to our radio stations
• Work extra hours and provide immediate and effective information when severe weather strikes, including interrupting regular programming
• Communicate and assist with the Weather Team and the weekend evening crew when necessary
• Fill in other shifts when necessary and make public appearances

Requirements:
• Currently enrolled or have a bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, or any related field.
• Prior Internship or job shadow experience required
• Experience with The Weather Company software
• Knowledge of Meteorological science and forecasting
• Dynamic on-air presence with compelling and confident weather segments
• Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Valid Driver’s License
