More Americans are Becoming Pro-marijuana

As Ohio appears set to decide on the legality of marijuana in the near future, a recent poll done by CBS News, shows that a record high 53% of Americans feel that marijuana should be legalized.

We talked to CEO of Muskingum Behavioral Health, Steve Carrel about some of the reasons he feels this attitude shift is becoming more apparent.

“I think there is a growing acceptance of pot, legalizing pot, partly because that’s what people are seeing in the media and stuff, partly because the flower children of the ’60’s and ’70’s, that majority of the bell curve, are at a point where they might be able to get that changed” said Carrel.

He also suggested that, “more and more people are feeling, are more open about saying yes, I’m in favor of legalization. There are more people in favor of legalizing it for medicinal purposes.”

Carrel did comment that he believes this particular survey has many flaws in it’s sampling process, and that doing the survey by phone may not have been the best method.

One reason he argued being that, “because of the conservative nature of Ohio, a lot of people who are not in favor of it are choosing not to say that because it appears to be politically incorrect.”

Carrel did say he that a survey is not the place to look for accurate information about marijuana, but looking at studies done by unbiased sources and universities may be able to provide a better understanding of all aspects of the debate.
