Motorcycle Safety Awareness
ZANESVILLE, Ohio- May is National Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month and the Ohio State Highway Patrol wants to remind motorcyclist to drive safely.
Zanesville Post Commander Lieutenant Matt Boyd said motorcycle safety has been on the rise for the last few years. In 2017, there were 155 fatal motorcycle involved crashes in Ohio which are 20 percent less than 2016.
“We’re proud of the fact that in 2017 we didn’t have any motorcycle fatalities in our post area. I couldn’t find that result anywhere in history,” said Lt. Boyd.
Lt. Boyd said anyone under the age of 18 needs to wear a helmet but, the Ohio State Highway Patrol encourages all motorcyclist to wear one. May is not only for motorcycle safety awareness, it’s also for prom seasons and Cinco de Mayo.
“Make sure just like any celebration time or any holiday that they plan ahead. Don’t go out and drink and drive or do anything crazy. We will have extra people out this weekend. There are a couple proms Saturday night, so we’re going to have our younger drivers out there as well so, we don’t want to make that a receipt for disaster,” said Lt. Boyd
Lt. Boyd said whether you are on a motorcycle or driving a car, never drink and drive.
