Muskingum Co., S. Zanesville Leaders Seek Resolution to Sewer Dispute

ZANESVILLE, Ohio — The Muskingum County Commissioners and leaders from the village of South Zanesville are seeking a new arrangement for sewer service for the village.
Sewer Dept. Mgr. Stan Lucas, who says he’s been on the job five months, says the county is losing money on the deal struck in 1984.
“I started going through the bills when I took over here and that’s one of the things I saw, that we’re spending more money down there than we were recovering, so it’s an issue I wanted to look into,” Lucas tells WHIZ News.
The County Commissioners and South Zanesville city leaders met for a while Thursday afternoon to discuss possible options. Those include renegotiation of a current sewer service contract, replacing it with a new contract, or arbitration. The details have not yet been determined.
Both government entities says they will work out the details in the next forty-five days.
