Muskingum County Dog Warden Seeks Funding

County Comm (1)

ZANESVILLE, Ohio — The Muskingum County Dog Warden & Adoption Center met with the County Commissioner’s office this afternoon.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss funding for a new facility, as well as outdoor signage designed to promote fundraising for the new facility, and to let community members know where they stand in relation to their goal. The sign would go on Route 146  but the designs for the sign and a budget are still being worked on.

“Today we actually came to talk more about building our new pound facility. We’re wanting to put a sign out front to give everyone in the public to know what our goal is, the amount of our goal, how much money we’ve already raised. And as we go along, you’ll be able to see how much money we are raising, and let everyone know what’s going on in that fashion,” said Doug McQuaid of the Warden & Adoption Center.

McQuaid advises they have currently raised $37,000 through efforts such as haircuts, 5K’s, and adoptions, but they are looking for other avenues, and the outdoor signage will help promote the additional funding they need.

And while the new facility would not only be cleaner, more welcoming, and a better environment for the dogs, it’s location would be the most accommodating for community members as well.

“Much cleaner, ever animal, every dog would have a god bed and a sufficient area to be able to be in and that’s kind of the problem what we have now. We have two different buildings in the same building, you might want to say. The front side is basically made where you can in- and-out and you can have dog beds and it just makes it so much better,” McQuaid added. The Warden & Adoption Center says they have a required three day stray hold, after which dogs will stay with them anywhere from one day to a year or more.

The plan is for the new building to be constructed directly next to the existing facility at 1500 Newark Road, next to the Zane State science building.
