Muskingum County Head Start Holds Annual Thanksgiving Feast

While most of us have to wait for Thanksgiving to satisfy our holiday taste buds, Muskingum County Head Start indulged early, at their annual Thanksgiving meal.

Over 250  pre-school students and their parents were invited to attend a Thanksgiving feast at Coburn United Methodist Church Thursday, November 13th. The annual meal included chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, and Head Start student Olivia’s favorite, cake.

Whiz: "What’s been your favorite thing to eat?"

Olivia: "Cake, chocolate and vanilla. "

While the cake was one of the clear highlights. The day’s festivities included much more than food. Stations including healthy eating tips, leaf painting with Zane State students, and other educational activities were placed around the church to keep the event focused on health and education. Students and their parents were even encouraged to stay healthy by getting a free flu shot.

Keeping true to the meaning of Thanksgiving, the main focus of the day was family.

"Me and my husband have been together for 14 years, we have 4 kids, there’s hard times, good times, thankful times, and times you wish you didn’t have. But you stick together, families important," said Olivia’s mom Kristy Quintero.

This year was an extra special celebration for Muskingum County Head Start as they are also celebrating their 50th anniversary.
