Muskingum County K-9 Adoption Center Dog of the Week; Meet Marley

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Marley and Me could be Marley and you with this week’s dog of the week.
Meet Marley! She’s an Akita-mix, estimated to be around 6 to 8 years old. Doug McQuaid is a volunteer at the K-9 Adoption Center who told us more about Marley and her past.
“Marley kind of has a sad story. Marley was abandoned by her owner. She loves to go for walks, loves to play in the play yard, loves tennis balls, is a little bit dog selective. So, that’d be something if you have another dog. Naturally, we always say to you, ‘Please bring in your dog in so we can do a meet and greet.’ Maybe she seems a little strong while walking on a leash so maybe a teenager or an adult was to be the one to be walking her,” McQuaid said.
She may pull a bit on the leash now but McQuaid believes that with enough time and effort, Marley can be leash-trained with the best of them.
“When you’re walking dogs, you know, on a daily basis, they seem to calm down and get more use to you taking them for a walk. So, that was something to always think about. You know, when a dog comes to you and he hasn’t been walked very many times, you know, it’s very excitable to them. So, a lot of times when they go out the door, they’re ready to run,” McQuaid said. “So like I say someone would take time and effort, do a little bit of walking with her. You know, just do it on a daily basis where, you know, next thing you know she’ll be walking right beside your leg and that’s probably what you’re thinking when you’re walking a dog to begin with.”
The Muskingum County Sheriff’s K-9 Adoption Center has dog food for those who need help feeding their pets and are looking for volunteers. You can volunteer or learn how to adopt a dog like Marley by calling (740)-453-0273.
