Muskingum County K-9 Adoption Center is Reminding Residents to Purchase Dog Tags

Dog License Reminder

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- January is the last month for residents to purchase a dog tag before the price goes up.

The 31st is the last day to get a dog tag for $10 for one year and $30 for a three year tag. Any day after, residents will be charged an extra fee, says Doug McQuaid, a volunteer at the Muskingum County K-9 Adoption Center.

“Two reasons, it’s the law and second of all the most important part is when our deputies and our local law enforcement pick up the dog, we have a way of being able to see where the dog belongs,” McQuaid said. “And what we try to do is not bring the dog to our facility and if we have a way of contacting you or bringing your dog to your residence, and your home, then we’ll actually give the dog back to you. If not, it has to come to our facility.”

Without dog tags, it makes it harder for the Muskingum County K-9 Adoption Center to accomplish their mission, which is to get all dogs back to their owner by looking up the dog tag number through the auditor’s webpage.

“Well after this month as well, you can only purchase your dog tags at the auditor’s office where now we have 12 locations within our city that basically you can go to that have different hours and different times,” McQuaid stated.

McQuaid said the reason it’s done this way is so that they can accommodate everyone’s work schedule and other things that need to be worked around.
