Muskingum County Records Commission Meets With Update

The Muskingum County Records Commission held a meeting Thursday afternoon.

The meeting was called to order to give an update on the records scanning process and discuss other business. We chatted with Corrie Marple of the Records Commission who says their new Scan Diva has been a lot of help in filing the records due to its ability to instantly convert the documents into a digital format. Marple explained the reasoning behind the converting.

“We do it for accessibility. The public records that we can put on a database eventually and that way the public can have access to them.”

Marple says some of the documents date as far back as the 1800’s, so many of the pages of the old documents are frail and tend to crumble. The Scan Diva helps preserve the original state of the documents and books due to its gentle process. The Records Commission is also looking into other means to help keep the records.

“We are going to look into the process of outsourcing our filming, that way we aren’t handling the film and the chemicals. That will be a cost saving process.”

Marple says there are over 100,000 documents that need to be scanned and converted to to a digital format.
