Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office 2021 Budget Meeting

Muskingum County Sheriff's Office

ZANESVILLE, OH – Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz met with the Muskingum County Commissioners today to discuss the 2021 budget for the Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Lutz said that to come up with a budget they look at what was spent the year prior and calculate whether they will have similar expenditures for the coming year. Sheriff Lutz shares one of the reasons for their budget increase.

“There will be a budget increase. You know obviously we have a union contract here at the Sheriff’s Office, and those run on a 3 year cycle, and this is the last year for this current cycle. So our budget is set to expire in December of ‘21, so our pay raises for the guys, for our people that work here has already been set and so any time you have a pay raise for your office-wide employees, you’re going to have an increase in your budget.”

The Sheriff’s Office will also be seeing the addition of more personnel with taking on the responsibility of the new Muskingum County Dog Warden and Adoption Center.

“A big topic at our discussion was of course the dog pound. With me having that new duty this year and we’re currently in the middle of interviewing applicants for kennel masters. We’re watching the development of our new building up here as it’s getting put up… Part of our additional increase was the two deputy dog wardens that we put on, that will be out handling the enforcement side of things and also assisting our normal patrol duties. And then we’ll have the two kennel masters working very closely with our volunteers that we have.”

With this being his 13th year as Sheriff, Matt Lutz said the community can expect the same great service from the last 12 years and his top priority is to continue to make Muskingum County a safe place to live.
