Muskingum football gets first shutout since 2012

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Muskingum’s defense came to play in their season opener and they get a home victory over Waynesburg 19-0.
The Muskies limited the Yellow Jackets to just 114 yards of total offense and forced three turnovers. It was the first shutout win for Muskingum since they beat Wilmington 45-0 in 2012.
“Our bread and butter is on the defensive side of ball. They played their hearts out. It’s a good group. We’ve got some talent over there and we put them over there for a reason and they played pretty good today,” said Muskie head coach Al Logan.
Muskingum broke a scoreless tie with seconds to go in the first half on a short touchdown run by freshman quarterback Brody Hahn. Hahn came off the bench and in his first college football game completed 10-24 passes for 120 yards and no interceptions.
Muskingum added two fields from Maysville grad Austin Alice in a the second half and a 67 yard rushing touchdown from Bernard Johnson to cap the 19-0 win.
Muskingum will now prepare for conference play. They take on Otterbein in Westerville next week at 1:30 p.m.
