Muskingum History & Future Events

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Muskingum History is offering a couple of events this month that aim to teach as well as broaden historical perspectives.

Muskingum County History Director of Operations Carrie Forgacs and Executive Director Larisa Harper talk about their History Explorer Day Camp for the kids, along with a Tulips & Tea social for the adults.

“This is a brand new program,” Forgacs said. “Day camp will be for children going into 1st grade and finished 5th grade, so right before 6th. We will be spending the 20th of July through the 23rd of July exploring history through the neighborhood. Our Stone Academy Museum, our Increase Mathews House and Gardens Museum, and also the Presbyterian Church and the neighborhood. Some of our abolitionist homes and historic spots throughout the neighborhood.”

The campers will be taught historical hobbies such as pottery making and weaving as well as the importance of preserving traditions. The Tulips and Tea social will offer a discussion around historical culture.

“So Tulips & Tea is a new event for us,” Harper said. “It’s something that Carrie has created for us. An opportunity for us to really live or experience how life may have been in the early 1800s at the Stone Academy. We’ll have wonderful refreshments and foods, and of course tea. And we’ll enjoy each other’s company as we talk with them about learning more about the Stone Academy and of course Muskingum County History in general.”

Both events will take place at 115 Jefferson Street. For more information about the day camp you can email Forgacs at Operations@MuskingumCountyHistory.org. The Tulips & Tea social will take place Sunday, July 26th, and reservations can be made by calling the number on the screen. (740) 785-6920
