Muskingum University Muskies Dominate First Game of Season

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- College football is back and the Fighting Muskies came out and fought hard Saturday.

The Muskingum University Muskies hosted the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets Saturday afternoon at Zanesville High School for both teams first game of the season.

The Muskies came out strong in the first quarter. Julio Garcia blocked a punt from the Yellow Jackets and Davin Sanz scooped it up and took it to the end zone for the touch down. Muskies took the 7-0 lead.

Not long later, Donny Wilkinson had a four-yard carry to give the Muskies a 14-0 lead.

With 4:49 remaining in the first quarter, Wilkinson had another touchdown. His three yard carry put the Muskies up, 21-0.

Heading into the second quarter, senior quarterback Jordan Garrett completed a 17-yard pass to Gannon Unger. Muskies took the lead 28-0 with 8:47 remaining in the first half.

A few minutes later with 5:59 on the clock, Cortez McGinnis picked up an offensive fumble and returned it back 52 yards. The Muskies extended their lead 35-0.

With 22 seconds remaining until the half, Garrett completed a 14-yard pass to Travanti Keitt, putting the Muskies up 42-0 heading into halftime.

Heading into the third quarter with 4:25 on the clock, sophomore Travis Roberson ran four yards for a touchdown. The Muskies took the lead by 49 points.

Waynesburg only allowed one touch down in the third quarter.

Heading into the fourth quarter, Waynesburg got on the board with a field goal.

Muskingum University pulled through in its first game of the season with a 49-6 win.

The Muskies are back in action on Saturday, September 11 at Zanesville High School. They will host Ohio Northern at 7:00 p.m.
