Muskingum University students serve Christ’s Table in Zanesville

Mlk Day Of Service

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Martin Luther King Jr. Day is often known as a day of service.

Muskingum University students involved in Greek Life spent their Monday serving different organizations across the area. Sisters of Theta Phi Alpha Sorority spent the day serving lunch at Christ’s Table.

Chapter President of the sorority Kathlyene Montgomery says the day helps to honor the legacy Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. left.

“Muskingum University hosts Martin Luther King Day of Service which is a national day across the country where we try to spend the day honoring Martin Luther King’s wishes by volunteering. I’m a part of the Theta Phi Alpha Sorority — I’m the chapter president. So I’m here with some of my sisters serving lunch at Christ’s Table in Zanesville.”

Montgomery says this is just one of the many ways the organization gives back and that service is one of the main reasons students choose to join a Greek Life organization.

“We actually, as a national sorority, have philanthropies that we work to serve every day throughout the entire year and one of those is called the House that Theta Phi Alpha Built, which is a philanthropy that works to help those impoverished or suffering from homelessness. I’m so thankful to have these opportunities with my sisters because I think it makes us closer to see that, in a lot of ways our lives are easier than people who are around us and I think it really brings us together.”
