ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum Valley Garden Society held its 17th Annual Garden Society Symposium at Ohio University’s Zanesville Campus Saturday.

President for the Society Beth Brown says they’re responsible for upkeeping all the planters on the Y-Bridge and throughout downtown.

“The Muskingum Valley Garden Society has been in existence for a little over 17 years now. This is our 17th Annual Spring Garden Symposium and the Muskingum Valley Garden Society plants the downtown planters. We started with 40 and we are now up to 167 planters that we do. Garden Symposium is our biggest money maker. Everything that comes in today from the sponsorships to the beautiful silent auction items, all of that goes toward the money that we need to do all the planting and to do what we do around town to beautify our community.”

Brown says becoming a member can be a rewarding and relaxing experience.

“We have about 30 members that are active right now and we are always looking for more. To be a member, it is just $15 for a membership. You come and join us and help out for 15 hours within the year and you get to come to this event for free.”

Several vendors were at the event.
