National Public Gardens Day at Mission Oaks Gardens

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Mission Oaks Gardens celebrated National Public Gardens Day Saturday.
There were flower vendors, food, and story time with the library. Children also had the chance to make crafts and visit the Fairy Garden.
“And as part of National Public Gardens Day we have an annual plant sale here at Mission Oaks Garden that raises funds,” said Russell Edgington, executive director of the Muskingum Valley Park District. “And really one of the things that most popular for the little ones, and the young at heart. This is the day that the fairies return to the fairy garden.”
Edgington said Mission Oaks Gardens started as a private garden, but was opened to the public a few years ago, and has since become nationally recognized.
“Mission Oaks Gardens actually nationally known,” said Edgington. “It’s listed in the Smithsonian Institute’s gardens catalog. So people, we actually have visitors that come here from all over the country, and actually from abroad.”
The garden is open all year long from dawn to dusk every day. Admission to the gardens is free.
