New Fall Vendor At Farmers Market

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Zanesville Farmers Market recently added a new vendor selling fall produce.
The vendor is Mark Mechling of Mechling Farms. Mechling has lived in the area for many years and is now bringing his homegrown produce to the farmers market.
“About five years ago I retired from the OSU extension office and began gardening on the side and it developed into a little more of a hobby and I’ve been selling at area farmers markets for the last three or four years. We’re right in the time now where a lot of produce is coming on for me, I like to grow some of the fall produce so I have pumpkins, gourds, sweet potatoes, cabbage, several different types of peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, different types of squash, got a good variety of vegetables that I grow this time of year.”
Mechling says that gardening is a therapeutic activity to him and that he looks forward to the growing season each year. That said, gardening is not without its hardships.
“It’s been kind of a difficult year. We’ve had a lot of rain back in May, we had a freeze actually the weekend of mother’s day. Then we got into the hot dry summer, so it’s been kind of a difficult year to grow. Every year is different, it’s always challenging, but in the end you get some vegetables that do well and this kind of the culmination of the growing process here today.”
As well as the Zanesville farmers Market you can also find Mechling Farms at the Canal District Market in Newark.
