Newark Police investigate fatal shooting

NEWARK, Ohio–Newark Police said two people are in custody in connection with a fatal shooting.

Police said Wednesday just past 10:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of the 200 block of Elmwood Ave on a reported shooting.

Upon arrival, officers found 28-year-old Matthew P. Helman, from Columbus unresponsive. Helman was taken to Licking Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead from a single gunshot wound.

Police said two suspects in the investigation, 26-year-old Delaney Desmond Daniels and 23-year-old Brianna Lohr, both from Newark, were arrested at a home in the 180 block of Mt. Vernon Road.

Daniels and Lohr were both charged with aggravated murder and aggravated robbery and are being held in the Licking County Jail.

The case will be forwarded and reviewed by the Licking County Prosecutor’s Office.
