‘Not On Tobacco’ (NOT) Program Starts This Month At Rambo Memorial Health Center
The program provides a total health approach to help young kids quit and reduce smoking along with promoting a healthy lifestyle and improving life skills.
Executive Director at Rambo Memorial Health Center Gloria Brown told us the program is completely free of charge to adolescents of the area.
The program is for teenagers from ages 14-19. It is a 10-week program starting March 15 that will be held at the Rambo Memorial Health Center on 711 Main Street from 3 p.m. – 4 p.m. every Tuesday through May 17.
LPN at Rambo Memorial Health Center Jennifer Richards gave us some statistics on adolescent tobacco use.
“An estimated 5.5 percent of high school students are actually smokeless tobacco users," said Richards. "A shocking 1.6 percent of the middle school students are now using tobacco. A lot of those students are using the smokeless tobacco. There is also evidence that the youth may be sensitive to nicotine and teens can feel dependent on nicotine sooner than adults can. Nearly 9 out of 10 cigarette smokers tried smoking by the age of 18."
